Lin Spins One Hit Shutout Against Aces
28th November, BRISBANE: The Brisbane Bandits, proudly presented by WellDog, faced familiar opponent, the Jet Couriers Melbourne Aces, on Friday at AFA Stadium at Holloway Field. The Bandits starting pitcher, Lin Chen-Hua, gave the Bandits a complete game shutout on the mound, striking out eight and only allowing one hit. Brisbane showed off their power as well on Friday behind big nights from Granden Goetzman, with three RBIs and a home run, and CJ Beatty, with two RBIs. The Bandits won the first game of the four game series 9-0 and regained first place in Australian Baseball League standings.
With the Bandits having won six of eight games against the Aces so far this season, the home team looked
to continue their hot streak on Friday. Without wasting any time, third baseman CJ Beatty lifted a sacrifice fly to centre field in the first inning, to score Johnny Field for the first run of the game. The Bandits took the early lead 1-0.
After an error in the second inning by the Aces allowed the Bandits to go up 3-0, they extended their lead once again after a shortstop Logan Wade single brought home Josh Roberts. With the score now 4-0, second baseman Tommy Coyle singled to right field scoring first baseman Mitch Nillson. The Bandits continued their scoring, making the score 6-0 after Granden Goetzman walked with the bases loaded. The Bandits ended their inning after taking the lead 7-0 on Beatty's second sacrifice fly of the night.
In the sixth, Goetzman joined teammate CJ Beatty at the top of the ABL home run list after he blasted his fifth long ball on the year. The Bandits jumped out to a 9-0 lead.
The Bandits' bats came alive Friday night, but it was Lin on the mound who stole the show. Brisbane's righty from Taiwan, playing professionally for the EDA Rhinos, pitched a complete game shutout on the mound, striking out eight Aces, only giving up one hit and not allowing a single run. The shutout is the first for the Bandits and gives Lin his second win on the season.
The Bandits went on to win the game by a score of 9-0, capturing their first shutout of the season and the first win of the series. The Bandits will take on the Aces again tomorrow, 29th November, in a doubleheader with the first game set for seven innings and a 1:00 PM first pitch and the second game set for nine innings
and a 6:30 PM first pitch.
